Rishi Sunak has been slapped down by The official statistics watchdog over his claim that he and his Government had "Cleared" the asylum backlog.Sunak was accused of telling Barefaced lies.

New additions are considered not to count as part of the original backlog.
It's a usual practice. Compare that with pushing the unemployed into training, or encouraging all schooleavers to go to university no matter what course they take, so that they will no longer appear in the unemployment figures.
