Awful Editorial practice?
92 Answers
It would appear that one cannot post freely on this site anymore as I have just had another perfectly reasonable post removed by what passes around here for an editor. I'm not going to do a flounce, theyre pointless but it's one of the reasons that this site is dying and losing members who contribute intelligently every day. Does anyone else find that the editorial team are really random in the exercise of their powers and seem to want the site to simply be full of non debating drivel with silly polls and pointless questions about what your favourite jam is etc etc etc ad nauseum? I find I post less and less as the site degenerates.

I find the site pretty claustrophobic at the moment with an almost intnentional dumbing down of posts because by definition anything interesting is bound to lead to debate, often the more interesting the more heated. I'm not talking about the troll issue where people just appear in whatever guise to stir other users up and become offensive, but a degree of disagreement is bound to occur on any forum and to try to police that out of existance makes the whole site pretty pointless.

from what I've seen (and I have no way of reading the editor's mind), what gets removed is (a) personal abuse; (b) strongly objectionable material (racial or sexual slurs in particular); (c) argumentative stuff in sections other than CB, Religion and News, which are the sections mostly made for it; and (d) occasionally, libels and contempt of court and so on. I don't know if your removed post fell into any of these categories.
Careful Trimer you called us ' dross' that surely is a hanging offence in these here parts. Of course it's a question and answer site, but no question can be answered with general accord by everyone and disagreements are bound to occur. These can frequently be the most informative in the big scheme of things, and some of the ' dross' actually do have brains you know.
