in our local News, due to the cuts, Hospices across the region will have to close

I am sure this will be the same wherever you live too, this is very sad, these places do wonderful work but today is the last day of the financial year and there's no more money for them

they have always depended on charitable gifts Zeuhl but it seems people can no longer afford to do this , to run properly they would need £5,000 a week I think they said

Canary I would have happily debated this, I know it is a political hot potato but mine is simply looking at the human side of this sad dilemma

just to recap on this, I am being told, No they will not be closing altogether but will have to work on a very much reduced budget, this is still very very sad imo

Sadly "the human side of this sad dilemma" is of no concern to the Cabinet, most of whom are multi-millionaires.

And the £50 cut in the winter fuel allowance didn't get much publicity. But cutting funding to hospices is a new low, in my opinion.

This is bad news, so many people rely on them in their hour of need.

Hopefully rather than providing a service almost exclusively to those with cancer the hospice staff can find work in mainstream hospitals where they can help all groups of dying patients like the patients with end stage lung and heart disease... I always felt it was unfair that some patients had second best treatment because they didn't die where the money goes

Same here, my neighbour was in tears as her husband is in a hospice and doesn't know what she is going to do.

Bobbi - why don't you gauge the interest here and any angles that you may have not thought about and put a well-reasoned e-mail through to No 10. And may I suggest downplay the emotion, it doesn't "sell" and, in fact, can undermine a well-reasoned and presented issue.

Main stream hospital and local surgeries also do a marvelous job in this field, The McMillan Trust is also a great relief for so many in their last months,weeks, days

I have been studying hard for a long time now covering all courses on palliative care, end of life care, signs and symptom of pain and the relief of pain etc. these are very difficult courses and very detailed. Alas all this in no replacement for a hospice, Carakeels own Son died in a hospice, they really are needed, they gave her and her family so much support, as did the McMillan Trust.
