/// Nearly three-quarters of households have completed and returned the forms, with the North East region leading the way at 75 per cent compliance, while London trails in last place with a total of only 60 per cent.///
Now I wonder why that is?

(I assume that is the number that made a census return). With 40 % currently missing this means around 1.25 million doors have to be knocked upon. Borough by borough numbers would be interesting. We could see how many of the “disadvantaged” areas (i.e. those with the highest rate of unemployment and thus with the largest numbers of people with plenty of time to fill in their returns) are doing.
I do wonder how accurate this census will be.
I remember one council a year or so back went round to all the houses where people got a discount on their council tax because they were living alone. They found about 20% were not in fact living alone at all.
And how many people are claiming benefits as a single parent, when in fact they are living with a partner, or even married to a person.
And what about illegal immigrants, or people who have lodgers but dont want to admit it as they have to pay tax on their income.
I am sure none of the above will fill out their census forms correctly.
This could be the most inaccurate census ever.
(plus if you add on to that all the people who now live here but dont even speak English, so have no idea the census is even taking place).

They can knock if they like, I'll answer and even give em a cup of tea if they like, but I'm still not filling it in.It's an interesting point though that in the UK you can call yourself whatever you like, there's no need to change your name by deed poll etc- you can also change it as often as you like, so there's nothing to stop those of us who are a tad p1ssed off with filling it in putting ' Prince Phillip', 'Ned Kelly' or 'Mustapha Sandwich'- then where would their census be? 100% pointless from beginning to end.
