You may or may not remember this set up, but there were 3 levels of administration...1)Regional 2) Area 3) District.

As an example Regional was Harrogate Area was York and the district was Scarborough and it was decided by the Government at the time that Area Health authority should be abolished in a cost cutting exercise leaving only Harrogate and Scarborough....a good idea.
Over the years it soon became apparent, that nobody had lost their jobs for they had been given other jobs in Harrogate and Scarborough.....net saving to the NHS....Nil.

I just have the feeling that the same is about to happen in this round of NHS reorganization.

PS to the other post - yes. As you will see I joined in the days of the RHA, subsequently SHAs, and is it just possible that the new National Commissioning Boards will look a teensy bit like the SHAs which go in two years' time...?

The PCT staff are already hoping that they will find work in the new Consortia where their skills will be needed, and some key staff have already jumped ship and gone to the provider Trusts.

There is however a huge amount of reduction in staffing. We alone lost 40 people to redundancy in March. Whether they will reappear in the new market provider services, who knows?
PS LOL - yes sqad, you could have continued this as a second "own reply" in the earlier post!!

Sqad, you're forgiven! :p it was an interesting read, so you start as many threads as you like.

I was just thinking back re: catering. At the adult education centre (where most of our staff/personal development days take place) they used to provide a 3 course meal for lunch - one of the perks of having to sit through a days worth of team building exercises - then after lunch, we would sit in enormous, generously soft padded chairs which were often situated next to a radiator making the whole afternoon a difficult task to stay awake, never mind focused.

These days, there are drinks and biscuits available in the lounge area during break and lunch. Lunch (sandwiches) can be purchased from the trolley just outside the lounge. We then return to plastic chairs for the remainder of the session.

Lore..LOL...yepp! hard to take eh?
Much the same here now lore - you are lucky if you get a plastic cup and a flask (if there isn't a vending machine) - each department has to pay for its own refreshments now.
