If anyone makes any incursion into any other country without a UN resolution or an invite to do so, they are acting illegally, they are invading another countries souvreignty and they are disrespecting an ally.
Pakistan have a right to be annoyed. They might get $billions in aid, but that does not mean we can ignore all normal relations and invade another country if we feel like it.
And such disreguard is very counter productive. Every Pakistani is going to be annoyed at such a violation of its territory. Any proud country will not be happy if even an ally or friendly country takes it for granted and carries out operations without its permission.

I really doubt that the Taliban have much of an air force so I'd think whoever shot at them knew who it was. There's not a line out there in the hills so its anyone's guess where the border actually is. No matter where it was at firing on an ally is bad for business. There are military channels for this sort of thing without shooting at anyone.
This is the old problem of the police, the military and all authorities, they are restricted
by their borders. Whether you are dealing with counties ,states or countries criminals
are safe as soon as they are over the border unless the neighbouring authority is co-operative. In the case of Pakistan there is little co-operation and a great deal of corruption. Therefore what choice is left.

AlL military aircraft have GPS sataite positioning, so they know within a few inches where they are in relation to any Borders.
There is a great deal of cooperation between Pakistan and the forces in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, illegal incursions into their territory alienates many civilian and governmental Pakistanis.
Bit like the Russians poisoning it's enemies in London, then expecting the UK to help them fight terrorism. That won't happen because Russia acted illegally, so we mistrust them.
