Now that NATO have destroyed Gaddafi's Air Force and Army including the tanks and ammunition depots why can't the African Union be used to finish the job?

because the UK government always has trouble keeping their chuffing noses out!
Bomb the Sugar out of Gadaffi, David, go and do it. O'Bama delivered Osama, you go and deliver Muammar and put us Brits on an equal footing with the Americans....and give Libyans the freedom they deserve.

Gadaffi is a genocidic (sp. but if in any doubt, read Hitler or any extreme dictator) murderer, pure and simple. Spare the Courts of World Justice in The Hague and do the world a favour.

Your take on the African Union may be viewed through the rose-tinted specs rov. There is quite a bit of history between the AU and Gaddafi, it seems the man has money and connections everywhere.
if you were painting your house, would you stop halfway through and get the African Union to finish it? They are not a totally reliable or efficient body at the best of times. Besides, it's just not their job. As a union, their job is to seek African unity, not invade each other.

How is Gadaffi genocidal? To the best of my knowledge he hasn't made war on any particular race - he did support the IRA, but so did a lot of Americans.
Most of Libyas neighbours are rather keen that revolution and people power does not spread to their countries. If they had their choice, the old Government in Libya would gain the upper hand again and finally stamp out this African spring nonsense.
