When is an uproar not an uproar?
Out of an audience of around 7 million viewers, 125 contacted the BBC to complain about a 'gay bedroom scene' shown in Eastenders this week.
Now, I'm not a mathematician, but surely, complaints from 0.001786% (and that's rounded up), hardly constitutes an 'uproar'?
Personally I was more incensed that the bl**dy Grand Prix coverage meant that Antiques Roadshow was cancelled on Sunday night, denying me my weekly pleasure of watching someone who thinks that the Constable left to them by Aunt Eileen actually came from Woolworths and has a value of £30.

it's nice to see these people are fine with letting their 10 year olds watch stories about being a crack addict, stealing other peoples babies and murder but not with watching 2 men have a kiss and a cuddle! Surely they should be more confused by a relatively attractive woman having an affair with ian Beale!

That is a fair point that you have made and nothing to do with the original question.
I would agree that it was hardly an "uproar"...............but many people may have considered it inappropriate to show before the 9pm water shed........also many wouldn't.

JTH - there IS a gay TV channel (imaginatively called Gay TV), but I strongly advise you to be wary of its programming!!!
Sqad - in this instance thought, doesn't the number of complaints (to use the Daily Mail's words - uproar) indicate that the vast majority of Eastenders viewers are ambivalent on the subject?
Compare the 125 complaints with the 700 complaints arising from the cancellation of Antiques Roadshow on Sunday!

all the soaps seem to get large audiences, i would imagine that includes families, perhaps with youngish children. Most of these soaps are on or around 7.00/7,30pm. Teas over so sit and watch the telly!
Many have had and continue to have violent storylines, with sexual content, straight and gay. Coronation street, had a story line that ran for a week, which was very violent, so was subsequently put on at 9.00pm after the watershed. Of course all parents can turn off the tv, or record it to watch later. But im not sure i care to see anyone getting their kit off, or snogging their faces off either at that time.
The few who made a fuss was out of proportion to the sensationalist headline, but can see their point to an extent.

If the homosexual population increases over the next few years we can put it down to advertising. Maybe thats why it shouldn;t be brought up in childrens sex lessons at school. There will always be homosexuals but why encourage straight people to dabble and take the wrong path in life. Homosexuality is a choice and should be discouraged!

stick a d-ldo up his a-s and lets see....I just do not believe the stupidity in his comment and, by the way, I am not gay, possibly bi like a tremendous percentage of us....... Really suggest that you read up on some basic psychology, rover, even if it is something as "simple" as "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus"

125 complaints? I didn't realise I'd called the BBC that many times!
If gay bedroom scenes have to be on our screens they should be on after the 9 o'clock watershed when young impressionable children will not be watching......plus there should be an announcement before the programme warning viewers about these scenes - along the lines of the 'this programme contains flashing lights' warnings we get
