It cannot be because they haven't the time, since they enjoy more leisure time than in the past.
Then perhaps it is because they are more affluent and can afford to pay others to do the job?
Or maybe in this day of equality, men are far too busy doing the cleaning and the ironing etc? (TITC remark honest)
Or could the reason be the same of why today's children have also lost the skills once held by the children of yesterday?

It started when I decided to let someone else lie underneath the car and drain the oil while I stayed in the warm.
However for so many jobs there is a downside , no one ever does the job up to the standard that I would do myself. Which means it irritates every time I see it.

Know what you mean modeller, I find myself progressing from wanting to do it, to letting someone else try instead. That said not all you hire do a worst job than yourself. The plasterer I hired to skim my kitchen ceiling did 'miles' better than I believe I would have. On the other hand my old place had a lot of kitchen work done and the electrician was obviously a cowboy; should have told the builder I'd do the fitting of the extension myself. Took me about a year of weekends to get it all sorted properly since I only had a few hours at a time to work on it.
