// A hunt for possible British accomplices of the mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik is under way after it emerged that he began his deadly “crusade” after meeting other Right-wing extremists in London.

Before he carried out Norway’s worst terrorist atrocity, Breivik typed out a chilling 1,500-page description of his plans, written entirely in English and datelined “London, 2011”.
He signed the document “Andrew Berwick”, an Anglicised version of his name, and described his “mentor” as an Englishman he identified as Richard. //

Is this a wake up call? Time to take the threat from far right extremists in our midst, more seriously?

I personally think we should have acted against a lot of things that people would say we shouldn't, but there will be plenty who don't agree with that (tarring everyone with the same bush). I don't think you will ever stop anyone doing something if they are so inclined, you cannot police everyone and everywhere unfortunately. So yes I feel things should be put in place to look into such things even if it doesn't help all the time.
We should. It's very worrying. Where did he get the training to construct a bomb? Here in the UK?
Gromit if that is all true it shows that the EDL are a peaceful group
.
// Breivik claimed to have had online conversations with members of the English Defence League and urged “them to use conscious strategies”. However, he dismissed the group as “naive fools” for refusing to sanction violence. //
the police could start by using their stop-and-search powers more frequently on blonds.
It really doesn't take a genius to make a bomb Sandy , almost anyone could do it if they put their minds to it, but if any good can possibly come out of such an abhorrent act it's that we really have learned we need to be vigilant about groups which have hitherto been dismissed by mainstream folk as being nothing much of a threat in the big scheme of things. Let's hope we can halt thes neo nazis dead in their tracks before they commit any more atrocities.

Let us not forget David Copeland the far right extremist who let off three nail bombs in London, killing a pregnant woman amongst others.

Jno, spot on.
Why were all his victims white Christians?
Surely with his beliefs he would have targeted the Muslim community.
Apologies if this has been answere elsewhere but I haven't seen or heard it mentioned.
I thought he was targeting those who supported immigration of 'undesirables' as he saw it.
I'd guess in his crazy logic he thought it would be Norway's Reichstag Fire moment
On second thoughts it was nothing like the Reichstag Fire.
i never looked at the edl as being a modern day short haired racist hippy
I suppose the difficulty for the authorities, when it comes to people with radical views, is identifying which ones are likely to cross that line to actually carry out atrocities.
Plenty of people throughout the World spout hatred but only a relative handful actually do terrible things like this.
That is true MightyWBA - if certain people on this forum were to commit an attocity there would be plenty of evidence for "I told you so" stories for the Murdochs to run.

So what about the hardware - what's the situation with firearms in Norway - were they legally held.

Is this Norway's Hungerford?
Both radical muslims and radical extremists spout the same message - these people have invaded our country, do not respect our values, and we must get rid of them.

The police listen for this kind of stuff in the Muslim community, and must be doing the same in the much smaller extreme right organisations.

There is a copycat mentality among disturbed people in this kind of area - I hope the police are stepping up their efforts.
How do you know the extreme right wing is a smaller community than the extreme muslim community?

Where do you get your information from?
I think now is the time authorities have to be more vigilant than ever, radicals could use Breivik's actions as a trigger for further activity.
I believe his actions were his alone, although it's clear a hell of a lot of people share his views I don't think he's acted as part of an organised attack, which is dangerous in itself as other lone crusaders could rise out of it.
It only takes one deranged idiot to talk a group of impressionable followers into doing something crazy, let's just hope our police forces can find them before any more atrocities occur.

Probably on the internet. Everythings there if you know where to look for it.
If you want an indication of extreme right-wing views in this country, you should read the comments after the article by Boris Johnson in the Telegraph yesterday.
It makes for very chilling reading.
Could there be similarities with the IRA here? Wanted the troops out of Ireland so they bombed innocent citizens to publicize their cause. He was a lone gunman but how many people out there who agreed with his views and could start a movement. The less publicity he gets the better!
I don't think he could have got a detonator on the internet.
