Yesterday was Silverton`s Street Fair in Devon. Local farmers loan fields for car parking, air cadets do the marshalling and everyone in the village helps and supports this annual wonderful day. The streets are flower bedecked and with balloons and ribbons, there are dances, shows, music and other forms of entertainment all day, the WI and Churches put on lovely home-made food, there`s a flower festival and the pub do special food and beer. The profits raised provide further amenities for all sorts of village organisations. Contrast with Tottenham - all destruction and vileness. I feel so sorry for the good people who live there, and so very lucky to live here.

This city is going to hell in a handcart, and i really don't like what i see around me now.
I thought it disgraceful, the behaviour of those who looted and set businesses, homes on fire, for what purpose i wonder, it wasn't to protest at someone's death, but to cause havoc, well they achieved that all right.

Em, why is it so easy to destroy, so hard to build? All you can do is look at the people you know, at your friends and at all the good people - far more, even in Tottenham or wherever, than those testosterone fuelled ignoramuses who make everything and everyone an excuse for their own appalling behaviour. Come here on holidy and forget `em for a while (though even in Exeter we have the Idiot Brigade)
My mother was born in Tottenham over a hundred years ago - she would be so sad to see it now.
The picture you are painting is of old Britain.

Tottenham belongs to the modern generation. You can understand why many don't like the changes foisted on us.
Unfortunately the blame for a lot of this should be laid at the door of the stupid politicians, who close their eyes to the blight of this city, and the tensions within it, the ordinary communities who suffer at the hands of gangs, and the violence that ensues. I wish that politicians would have an inkling what is really going on, instead of living in their ivory towers, and only coming out when it's election time, they haven't a clue.
Agree with you rov, exactly why people don't like what is taking place in this country now. It is lovely however to hear of places where they can enjoy themselves without creating hell and havoc, but sadly the good news like this seems to be less and less which isn't good is it.
Riots have been a sad but regular occurence in our major cities (especially London) throughout history.

This is not a new development!
They could always get water cannons on the rioters Zheul - Oh sorry, we've already discussed this haven't we??!
Oh dear, spelt your name wrong ...
Its all very 1981.
