Is it time to abandon pinko liberal soft justice ?
37 Answers
More and more we are we seeing that the right-on pinko liberal soft justice (incliding the liberal hush puppy wearing Clarke) is simply not working.
In New York they adopted zero tollerance - and it worked.
Is it about time we dumped the HRA and got on with dealing with these scum before it gets out of hand? Water Canon for riots, send in the troops to so called 'no go ' areas to flush out the gangs and lock the scum up for a long time when we get them.
To achieve this we need:
1) A Government which is not yellow bellied.
2) Sack all the right-on liberal judges
3) Dunp the HRA for a decent law.
4) Clear out the Police force of 'university types' and replace with proper coppers
5) Clear out the Police force of the corrupt officers (Jail them too for long periods)
6) Arm out police (once 4 & 5 are done).

As usual those with no view bang on about spelling.
It is not easy on a smart phone, my fingers are too big and I cant always see what I type as there is not a proper app. But anyway what does it matter if the spelling is wrong, I am expressing a point of view.
And no it is not Syria or any other place like that I am puting forward. I am after proper decent justice that make the streets safe for all, no matter what race or creed.
You must be one of the rioters/looters who like this get away with anything justice juding by your comments.

Looking at the "Latest Post" box, I was sure the last word was going to be "references".
Right so we should arm the police thus encouraging the criminals to tool up, and maximise the chance of folk getting shot by either side. Why is it that folk seem to see a bad example and wish to emulate it? We should be trying to remove firearms in public, not increase them.

In answer to your points...
1) A Government which is not yellow bellied.
That's down to all of us, however, you'll find that all parties claim to be strong on fighting crime. You'd have to be more specific when you say 'yellow bellied'. What would you want them to do? Increase sentences? Increase the number of police on the ground?
2) Sack all the right-on liberal judges?
Diffcult. How would you organise that? You would have to interview all high court justices to find out their political leanings and fire those who didn't conform to a predetermined consensus. Therein lies fascism!
3) Dump the HRA for a decent law.
That's a vague statement. The Human Rights Act encompasses a number of laws, and in itself, it's not actually a bad set of principles, but the enactment of some rights (the ones that make the papers) which has damaged the public's perception of the act.
4) Clear out the Police force of 'university types' and replace with proper coppers
Again - a vague proposition, and one that would be stunningly difficult to enact. Are you seriously suggesting that all police officers who went to university should be fired? Why?
5) Clear out the Police force of the corrupt officers (Jail them too for long periods)
Agreed.
6) Arm our police (once 4 & 5 are done).
There are armed police divisions already. Are you proposing that the 'bobby on the beat' are armed? Do you think that there's a possibility of an 'arms race' where we could see more and more villians going out 'tooled up' in case they're confronted by armed officers?

Well I think it's time for some people to stop the hysterical over-reaction, take a sedative and go and lie down in a darkened room for a few years :-)
Or study some history and read similar hysterical reactions published at regular intervals over the past two hundred years or more.

As usual someone dares to post their opinions on AB and if they don't fit in with some ABer's agenda, then the insults fly and diversionary tactics are put into force.
Take apart one's opinions by all means but please substitute them with a genuine constructive opposing argument.
I myself don't agree with all of youngmafbog's points, but surely some good points have been raised.
1) the Government should take stronger action, and not be afraid of upsetting certain groups in the process, if that is what is needed.
2) There should be an independent panel of judges to override any unduly lenient sentence, and be able to override any unjust European Human Rights legislation.
3) Improve the standard of police recruits, they need brawn & height, rather than a university degrees, a policeman should look the part as they did years ago, maybe they would then be figures of respect instead of figures of fun, which some of them have now become, ex service personal would be better suited for the job.
4) We now come to the question of arming the police, some have come up with the usual argument that if we do the criminal will also 'tool' up, well pardon me are not the criminals already 'tooled up'? Does one think that the criminals actually say "better not get a gun" because let's be fair 'the rossers' haven't got them? Again the ex 'squaddy' would have more experience of fire-arms.
5) Yes in situations such as the weekends riots, we should introduce the 'water cannon' 'rubber bullets' and even consider operating a curfew in certain areas.
6) during WW2 looters could be shot on sight.
7) Since New York introduced 'zero tolerance' it is a safer city to be in than London.
