David Cameron has said contingency plans are now in place for the use of water cannons if needed. On BBC News at about 11.45 this morning. Just seen it on internet site. So water cannons are possible after all.

I listened to a very senior policeman on the news today and he expalined that watcannon and rubber bullets are used in a crowd control situation where police are being advanced upon by a mob. He didn't believe that they would be of use in the current looting/ rioting situations. He also explained that it was up to the police what to use in situations such as this and it is not Mr Cameron's call.

I don't know but it is just an observation - they are the one's in the front line
The fire brigade will never allow their equipment to be used for riot control. They reason that it would make them even more of a target of the yobs than they are already.
