Who says some minority groups are not trying to run the country?

/// The Mayor of Tower Hamlets has given the Metropolitan Police Commissioner until Monday to seek a Home Office ban on the English Defence League marching through London’s East End on September 3.///

/// Legal proceedings will begin, they warn, if there is no response by Monday or if the response is not in favour of a ban.///

If this march is banned, perhaps the Notting-Hill Carnival should also be banned, since it will need twice the amount of police resources to police it this year, than it did last year?

"Who says some minority groups are not trying to run the country? "

The EDL may think they run the country, but the interevention of local community groups will hopefully put them right
:-)
Not checked you link, but I guess anyone is entitled to start legal proceedings. If they wish to warn folk this will start on a certain date, that is up to them.
Warning someone that you will start legal proceedings is not the same as threatening them.

"If this march is banned, perhaps the Notting-Hill Carnival should also be banned"
The carnival is a celebration, an EDL march is a provocation. No comparison.

More crimes are committed during the Carnival week-end than on any EDL march.

This years carnival is likely to stir up even more trouble, taking into account the recent riots.
I don't think there is a way of legally proceeding against some entity or other for not banning something. It'd be like sueing a referee for not booking someone when you think they should.

?????????????????????????????????????????????
???????

Then what is it?
"More crimes are committed during the Carnival week-end than on any EDL march."

notting hill carnival is attended by over 1million people enjoying the fesitvity, entertainment and sense of community.

the average edl attendance is 20-30 drunks with personality disorders.

do you really wish to keep cpmparing the two ?
"More crimes are committed during the Carnival week-end than on any EDL march. "

According to the Beeb, over 1 million people visited the carnival last year, and there was a total of 264 arrests (.0264%). That compares with an EDL march in Portsmouth earlier this year in which 500 took part and there were 7 arrests (1.4%). In other words, an EDL march generates 53 times as much crime as the carnival.
notice how the media can play things down, this is from last years carnival

>> The two stabbings resulted in minor injuries. One person was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.<<

if the edl held a large carnival and had two stabbings would the media say the same
"notice how the media can play things down, this is from last years carnival

Why, were the stabbings worse than that? Were there more than two? Why do you say "played down"?

"if the edl held a large carnival and had two stabbings would the media say the same "
Who knows? Not sure I see the point ...

2007:

/// Six people have already been arrested in a pre-carnival crackdown on crime Last year, two people were shot and there were several stabbings during the Notting Hill Carnival.///

2010:

/// Last year more than 200 people were arrested as a bulletproof vest and a knife were recovered from members of one group who gathered at Victoria station. ///

/// There were several arrests on Monday night after bottles and other missiles were thrown at officers.///

/// Throughout the carnival, London Ambulance Service staff dealt with 549 casualties, of whom 41 were taken to hospital. The rest were treated for minor injuries. ///

/// In the four weeks running up to the event more than 100 people were arrested, and large quantities of weapons and drugs taken off the streets, under operation Razorback.///

(((( do you really wish to keep cpmparing the two ? ))))

No I really must agree, one cannot possibly make comparisons between a crime provoking carnival and a peaceful EDL march even taking into account your unsubstantiated attendance of "20-30 drunks with personality disorders".
The Mayor of Tower Hamlets would be failing in his/her duty if they didn't do all in their power to try and prevent a potentially violent, coat-trailing, march.

"i will type this slowly

I understand that you think the media "play things down", but in respect of what? Are you saying that the media report you quote was deliberately played down? Maybe it was, but you don't say how.
And the second part of my bafflement comes from the fact that you predict a particular response from the press to a march by the EDL which hasn't actually occurred yet.
There is no comparison between the Notting Hill festivities, attended and participated in by people of all creeds and colours, and a small nasty march by a few people intent on stirring up trouble.
ichkeria go and have a look at one and then read the report in your choice of paper
see if the report would match your description of events

Go and have a look at what, exactly?
