Why do some find the need to wave their Pink Union Flags at the Proms?

However It was good to see that apart from this and thanks to such occasions as the Proms, we still have small chunks of English heritage left, in the ever increasing quest to dilute our heritage in a multi cultural England.

Thanks for that JTH
// we still have small chunks of English heritage left, in the ever increasing quest to dilute our heritage in a multi cultural England. //

It seemed pretty multi cultural to me. We had Bartok and Lizst, a couple of Hungarians, Wagner, a German, Chopin, a frenchman and Rodgers, an American.

And of course a great performance from Lang Lang.

The silly flag waving is not traditional. The Last Night was a dignified affair for half a century, and it was only when television cameras were first allowed that people started treating it as an upmarket football match.
Loved it, watch it every year (as far back as Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting) the atmosphere was electric as usual.

Judging by the number of flag wavers, I think you are in the minority this time Gromit.

Let's have a mini ballot shall we,

Should the 'silly flag waving' be abolished from the Last Night of the Proms?
Of course not, a lot of the promenaders go to every concert throughout the year, the last night is their night, they hoot and whistle wave our flag and enjoy themselves.
there weren't that many stars and stripes in the audience, brenden

Nice to see Norwegian flags in relative adundance though......
No the 'silly flag waving' should not be abolished ..
If you are referring to my avatar DT, it is to symbolise 9/11 - My choice.
mine too Brenden :-)
Are just the pink ones silly?

didn'say it wasn't, brenden, it just read funny.......
As I said on the other thread, a good number of people flag-waving were waving other countries' flags too!

Judging by the audience it was one in the face to all those promoting a multi ethnic society.

Don't they want to integrate, we join in their Carnival, why do they not wish to join in ours?
They did, AOG, there were people from many countries in the audience.
obstroperous, like black gnomes

Lang Lang was great as usual & with pink carnation.
He was superb, tambo! I thought the Britannia singer's get-up was a bit unnecessary, LOL.
