Apparently the girls spend a half an hour on average apply their make up at school so the Head has taken these steps

now that's pointless! If mirrors were the only thing preventing girls from putting on their slap they'd just bring compacts!
Question Author
exactly !
or their own hand mirrors in their school bags?
If they want to prevent girls wearing make-up they can make it a school rule. Unless the suggestion is they put it on, admire themselves, then wipe it off again before leaving the toilets.
It will probably cut down on the 'social' aspect of make-up application, though...
The school would be better banning it-local school did-that was primary-the culprits weren't the last two years either-blame the parents

our local Comp is now a Sporting Academy, a new Head has taken over and the girls are given wipes to remove any make up they are wearing, he also has reintroduced the school blazer and the girls must wear their skirts to the middle of their knee
We've always had school uniform round her- I had to-35 years ago..My son hated it
Question Author
same here BP but the last Head was a bit lax in his rules, skirts were very short and boys wearing trainers etc, now they are made to conform to the discipline of full uniform, no shirts hanging out and 'fat' knots in ties
I find the amount of make-up 'some' teenage girls wear absolutely ridiculous.

I'd put a rule on it like they do with jewellery.
i agree but you can bet that if make-up was banned someone would take them to court because it was their right to wear it!

I have a funny feeling this might well happen gina,
bobbi, wouldnt be at all surprised, its the way of the world it seems

the downward spiral at our Comp started about 10 yrs ago with one of the Mothers , a solicitor, no less, threatening legal action if her daughter couldn't wear trousers to school, she won and the demise started, they ended up calling the Teachers by their Christian names eventually

<I am not against girls wearing the proper colour trowsers btw >
Question Author
*trousers*
Why was that particularly the start of the downward spiral?

Lots of schools have a school uniform where girls wear trousers - I don't see how that would cause total moral and academic collapse
10 years ago? We wore trousers to school....The girls didn't have to wear a tie or blazer. They do now...
You've hit the nail Bbbi - it's all down to parental support for school policy. and I will add that within 'ordinary' schools, you'll get senior staff who decide not to back teachers who tell em to take their slap off.
I wore trousers to school........although the 'flare' was limited to 22inches, I recall......:o)
Question Author
I said I have no objections to girls wearing trousers, I can only go by what I have been told locally about what I have said
