Hello, have the above, oil light is beeping every month or so for more, so I've been putting more in..my friend replaced the rocker head cover gasket as he said it needed doing and now I can see fresh oil, as you look at the main engine block in the nooks and crankies bottom right hand side-not loads, dripping on the floor or anything, but enough to set off the oil light..local garage says to crush the car as its on its way out..but they have motives to say this,,ie "buy another car from us!!"...just wondering if anyone thinks if this is critical and costly?? thanks v much

Another thing to check is to see if the exhaust gives out blueish smoke when the engine is revved hard - if it does, then it means the engine is burning oil, and this usually indicates a problem with the piston rings. These will be more expensive to replace, so unless you have a mechanic mate who can do them on the cheap, a garage is likely to charge you more than the value of the car to do it, as it's a lot of labour.
