So now instead of Mother and Father being entered on passport forms, we are to have 'Parent 1 and Parent 2' to suit same sex parents. I wonder if the 'female lobby' will now demand that Parent 1 will have to be the female?

/// The decision follows the revelation last month that details of the holder’s sex could be erased from all passports to spare transgender people from embarrassment.///

Since it seems that very tiny minority groups can lobby to alter certain things, could not the vast majority of English lobby to be named so, rather than just British?

"Same-sex parenthood is not available naturally"

you seem to be muddling parenthood up with conception again.
you might be right about adoption agencies, NJ , in particular about the anti-cigar one - they aren't necessarily all as bad, but friends of mine did have appalling trouble trying to adopt, mostly because of council incompetence.

But it doesn't follow that those who raise children have to be male and female; I don't think "what is available naturally" need be our guide to life. It would rule out trains, charities and suntan lotion - and yet, manmade though they are, all these improve our lives.
As we are only trying to cope with a minority probably less than 100 why don't they just say on the passport they are gays and leave the passport as it is for the normal population.
This is a non-story.

I read it in the Daily Telegraph and that paper misled their readership as I assume the Mail has...

'Mother' and 'Father' will still appear on passports. In addition, so will 'Parent 1' and 'Parent 2'.

This addition will more accurately reflect the parentage of minors being raised by same sex parents.

Talk of adoption is muddying the water - that's another story...because not only are children from same sex families adopted, they can also be born from surrogacy.

Wonder why the papers left out that bit about 'Mother' and 'Father' still appearing - could it be a bit of rabble-raising?
As the individual who had morning sickness (which lasted all day), for months, put on the weight, carried 7 pounds of baby around, was pushed and prodded by strangers, endured a 36 hour labour without pain relief, suffered the tears and stitches and gave birth in a foreign country I would be only too delighted to be referred to as Parent 1.

Does that make me part of the female lobby? Never regarded myself as a foyer and entry seems so vulgar.
//Why has adoption been brought into this? //

I'm not sure, but I think I may have introduced that Jack. When I read this question I instantly thought of a gay couple I know who have a adopted a little girl, and are now in the process of adopting her brother too.
I don't get why it's being called 'PC' anyway, to have a same sex couple marked as Mother and Father is factually incorrect.
Same sex couples with kids do exist, to bring legal documents in line with this is just common sense!
