Will Cameron cop out of the next referendum?

If the 17 countries in the Euro find some tricky weasel wording to change the rules without a formal treaty change involving the UK and other non-Euro countries, will Cameron lean over backwards to avoid triggering the referendum most people want?

are you talking about the EU or the euro? Brown kept us out of the currency and I don't see anyone demanding a referendum to get us in.

As you will know, the 17 countries in the Euro currency are having their own meetings and pushing towards fiscal union (United States of Europe here we go...)

This will involve treaty change at some levels, which must affect the UK.

If cunning Johnny Foreigner does it as a sideshow, the countries not in the euro won't have to ratify anything.

I suspect Cameron would avoid giving us a referendum, for fear of the British public and so as not to upset the Lib Dem Euroloonies, who would love to see us in the Euro if they could get away with it.

I asked this last week - it looks as though Germany are working on it.

Come on David, we won't tax out of existence the City of London (20% og our GDP) as long as you let us run Europe and don't raise waves.
