Was this an inappropriate piece of advice, that Eamonn gave out, or are some women groups a little touchy.

It reminds me of the time on Answerbank that I was lampooned by some for innocently saying at least a mother of a baby which had just died, was at least young enough to have another child, in which to somehow take it's place.

I was in no way being insensitive, I was just trying to console someone, since I had experienced a similar personal experience to that of the couples sad loss.

But try telling that to some.

Isn't that a lot of kerfuffle over nowt?

I'm sure most people when told this story thought "why didn't you get a taxi?" He just said it that's all.

Not quite sure where you're going with the losing a baby thing? So I'm leaving that alone!
Eammon H is being paid to talk to people and should learn to be tactful.

You express only your opinion and the rest of us either will agree or disagree with this. I don't think that you in any way try to upset people - wind them up perhaps - but sometimes we hit enter before we read what we have typed.

Let battle commence ................ :-)
I don't think he was being insensitive, he was making a valid point. It's quite simply not safe to be walking alone late at night but she DEFINITELY did not deserve to be raped just because she was.
She has probably spent many hours and much anguish wondering why she didn't
I was attacked walking home on my own. He makes a perfectly valid point. I didn't get a taxi because I didn't want to wait for it....I wouldn't do it again though.
to my mind, in this day and age she *was* silly to go out alone after dark and did contribute to her downfall! EH was just being protective!

and anyway, this morning is just a light piece of daytime telly, not a serious investigative programme!
>> Miss Cant explained she had been with a friend and had walked the last two streets alone to her home as she had done many times before. <<

everybody should be able to walk home never mind just two streets, it is the scum like her attacker who should fear being outside

no one should have to fear walking alone on the streets
Agree DrF...

I'm not sure I agree with the 'In this day and age' comment, like we are producing more and more rapists as time goes on...
The man's a boor, and should have a bit more common sense,
think before you speak is a good maxim to live by, and in his job it helps.
If it has happened to you, you don't want someone reminding you what you should have done and didn't.
But it's also a warning to viewers.
I agree with DrF ....

is it me or is the headline spelled wrong?
It's sensible advice to NOT walk home late at night on your own but get a taxi instead.

The thing is though it looks a bit tactless and patronising of him to point that out to her after the event of her rape. I'm sure she's aware of it.
when we know so much about what can happen and the need for transport is forseen, i meant ...

often when there is a murder, it says the girl died after getting seperated from her friends and walking home aone ...
He should resign or be sacked, kids would be watching this in the morning. I hope they don't end up with emotional scars.
What?
their parents should have ensured they did not watch a programme about rape, surely?
if it had been during the daytime, and that happens as often, what would he have said then?
good point, and date rape can happens indoors/anywhere ... but it was dark and she did try to walk home ...
i walk home alone, i imagine the distance is probably equal to, the two streets away distance she walked. i would'nt get taxi to take me just that short distance. however if i was her and already in the taxi i would of carried onto home.

if i go into town when we get shared taxis home we always get dropped off at out respective houses
It was on during the daytime...
