/// Westminster Council is proposing to abolish free parking on single yellow lines and parking bays between 6.30pm and midnight Monday to Saturday, and between 1pm and 6pm on Sundays. Parking will cost up to £4.80 per hour. ///

This is going to have a dramatic effect on clubs, restaurants and theatres etc. as well as for people who visit their relatives and friends at the weekend.

Perhaps those affected should stage a 'live in tent' protest, that seem to be all the vogue these days?

i'm not living in a tent, bad enough living here at it is. Parking charges in our borough are a massive rip off and it has had an impact on businesses, as this will if implemented. As long as the council gets it's money, what do they care.
given that ncp parking in the same area is probably £6+ per hour then why shouldn't they charge it. if you don't like the charges then get the bus/train etc.
for a lot of people it isn't possible, or cost effective to take the train/bus.
well it looks like it might be soon.

forgetting of course about the daily congestion charge

Don't run late enough for those 'on the town'.
well if you can afford to go to town, you can afford a cab then.

although i do agree with you aog and pity those on benefits etc living in that area, it must be diffficult to cope with the costs.
I assume they are going to reduce the council tax for Westminster residents with the proceeds.
Think I will pitch my tent in the road outside Harrods and use the "Grocer of Knightsbridge's" store as my soup kitchen but then MI5 or that "Fuggin' Duke of Edinburgh" may have me murdered......

That might be in jest, but one should be careful at making false aspersions .
That old Greek might be a dangerous man to cross.
You obviously are not a Private Eye Reader the, AO, or Sandy.......that has been their line of assault for some time....and MF is known as the Fugging Grocer of Knoghtsbridge to them and any reference to Phil is in those terms.....I can't claim originality.
sorry AOG not AO
