Depending on who you ask and why you will get a wide range of answers. SIPRI (the Stockholm Peace Research Institute) claim that there are 24 'Major Armed Conflicts' in the world. Other researchers will claim there are almost 100 armed conflicts around the world today (and yes, I am one of them). It depends on what criteria you use; 1,000 deaths/year, 1 death or doesn't anyone have to die for it to be a war. -Can you measure human suffering in economic terms?
