There are many radio stations to choose from and Absolute Radio 60s probably only has a few thousand listeners anyway. Cliff's PR people are of course delighted by this- they used a similar story (radio 1 'banning' Cliff ) a couple of years ago to gain loads of publicity.
I must admit that after hearing Cliff on Loose Women (wasn't watching, honest- it was on in the background) I couldn't stop singing Always and Forever tesyerday

it's true, though, Nox; even Clapton praises him, and he knows more than I do.
As I said somewhere earlier, radio stations can play what they like. But a lot of retro stations seem to conspire to ignore Cliff the way they ignore punk. Young people are more likely to come across him in films these days.
Speaking of films, Johnny Hallyday made a good one

Hi Missnemesis. I didn't compare the styles or musical worth of Cliff Richard with the Who etc. I just said that he is an icon of his time. I don't know any figures but I would think that he would be in the top 10 of records sold by a British artist. As such, I would go to see him to see what the fuss was/is about and if his popularity was justified. Just my opinion.
how hes lasted in the biz so long is a total mystery to me, he can sing in tune but thats about as far as it goes, hes not a "good"singer hes very average if that.
you have to look at how he started out and when, right place right time, nowhere near the competition thats around now days (although the vast majority is total garbage.)
hes not a writer hes a peformer of other peoples songs, so if they dont offer him material hes donald ducked !

Whatmeworry What you say about Cliff is true except the competition, it was huge, everyone had the british Elvis. Just a few Tommy Steele, Marty Wild, Billy Fury, Vince Eager, Terry Dene, Vince Taylor and Adam Faith therere were a lot of others and then there were the americans.
He survived because he was unthreatening and Mum's loved him, he was mainstream in a time of youth upheavel.
The fact that his music was bland and unimaginative shouldn't take away from what he achived. Somebody liked it and bought it.
