So what are the advantages of play station type gadgets over PC's
Ive never been into games and really only ever played "World of Warcraft" on my PC.
So why a dedicated machine to play some of these games, are they necessary to play these games and if so, why?

Graphicaly console games are far better, as the machines are games machines. Although the games may not be "better" they are in the main different and controllers make the games easier to play. I would love WoW to be on a console.
Some very good games are only for a particular console. I think it boils down to taste really.

for me I suppose you need a fairly high spec PC to run the latest games. To get a PC up to that level costs alot more than a console and has less 'shelf life'.
A console usually enjoys around 5-6 years at the cutting edge until its bigger, better replacement comes along. There are no compatability issues in that time.

I guess the main advantage now, RatMan, is that a lot of the best games just aren't available for the PC. Rockstar titles, I think, can't be played on the PC
When the consoles first came out, average home PCs weren't powerful enough to compete. It's quite different now. With plenty of memory and a good graphics card, they say that some play even better on a PC.

And there's the advantage that all Xbox's/playstations have exactly the same hardware in them, so a game written for a console can be guaranteed to play at it's best on that console and will work straight away, with PC's there are millions of possible hardware/software combinations so the game may not play at it's best or even work at all straight away.
consoles are more accessible to. No tricky installations or configs - just put the game in and off you go.
As per triggs, its more of a comfortable environment to be sat on your sofa playing games on your 42" HDTV as opposed to the computer desk that is usually crammed away in some draughty corner of the house!

ojread2, I am now bored with WoW, I got into the level 80s with 2 chars and up into mid levels with another 7 but due to personal difficulties I find im struggling with getting any further being a clicker and all. it has just got so complicated and most groups are so up themselves and critical of anybody that is not as fast or efficient.
LOL Ratter, I know what you mean there!
I'm a guild and other than PvP, only play in group things with guildies. I long ago stopped joining random dungeons with random players because of the constant deriding attitudes there are
I never my opinion on what a dedicated machine - Most/many games are available on all consoles and PC's, I mean WoW is Mac compatible too, so I think it's all about money for the companies who create them but ease of play for the consumer. As a consumer I find it easier to sit at a desk than I do on the floor/sofa to play any game
