Yet another example of how broken today's society is, here is an elderly lady who has died trying to hold onto her late husband's ashes, who had died 17 years previously.

It is reported that two teenagers age 14 & 17 have been arrested on suspicion of robbery, if it is proven that it was these two who are also responsible for her death, then they should named and put away for many years.

Well ill-billy the abolition of the death penalty does not appear to have stopped crime to this date i.e from the death penalty to the slapped wrist approach nothing seems to have worked - what next?
Brenden, I am not sure I understand your question. By 'what next' do you mean what punishment should be given to people who have already commited a crime or what should be done to try and prevent crimes happening in the first place?
Both.
Why all this debate? These scum attacked an elderly lady just to rob her handbag and took away from her that which was most precious, her husband's ashes. As a reulst of the actions of these pieces of slime, she died. They are filth pure and simple and should be taken off the streets for a long, long time. God only knows how her relatives must be feeling and all because some scum thought it was OK to attack an old lady and rob her. What a world !
These were 14 and 17 years old, and are out on bail, so wonder what happens now. I read through the whole thread, and i stand by my first comments, and Brenden i totally agree.
Okay, well for punishment of these slime and sub-human scum I have always thought that dunking them multiple times in an acid bath set up in the middle of their sink hole estate should send the right message out, a little like the olden days but upgraded because of course crimes are worse now.

With regards to lowering future crimes of this type, it is only by spending money that anything will be achieved , be it in increased police presence in the short term and spending money on child poverty (and yes, that does include sending them on holiday), and creating employment opportunities that will decrease crimes like this in the longer term. I can only talk in high level terms because I don't know the specifics but I do see value in this whereas others look upon it with scorn and indigence whilst enjoying the news stories about hoodie crime.

Unfortunately the latter costs far more money than setting up an acid bath and of course the results with the former are far more immediate and gratifying so take your pick.

/// What I care about - that neither you, AOG or horseshoes cares about is trying to stop the next crime being commited by the ones that are not dead yet. ///

All very fine words, but with no answers.

You still haven't given me a answer to my previous question by the way.

<< Incidentally, it would be interesting to know what you, yourself are doing towards preventing the next 'granny' from being murdered? >>

Perhaps you suggest, taking action against all youngsters, in case they commit such a crime in the future?
I have answered all questions so far, maybe not to your liking but I have answered, please reread the thread.

So you have come up with an answer then, good we can now look forward to no more 'Granny killings' then?
I am all for letting Ex Gurkha soldiers have them for a month, give them some much needed discipline, and see how they like the regime, and how much they want to fight the world afterwards. Also perhaps if they want to be violent, then do it in a controlled way, like they used to do with boys in the East End, join a boxing club, get fit, and some good may come of it.
is it common for pensioners to walk around with £200 cash in their bags and wallets ? i know my mum wouldn't and she's 73.
we need to get to the root of why people do this sort of thing - merely calling them names and asking for them to be strung up etc solves nothing in the long run.
I know some who do walk around with that kind of cash, often it's after they get their pensions, and the lowlifes can be waiting for them as they come out of the post office, bank, knowing full well they are easy targets.
How do you create employment opportunities for the likes of these two when I presume lunchtime thursday they should have been at school, or is it a right to be illiterate but still expect a job - well i guess the answer to that will be a yes.
///So you have come up with an answer then, good we can now look forward to no more 'Granny killings' then? ///

As I said above, it needs money spent on it. At least I am thinking about the problem rather than worrying about what is in handbags and or the tough choice of whether to string them up either 50 feet or 60 feet up in the air.

Just as an aside, what do you think of the 'acid bath in the middle of the sink hole estate' punishment for them? Send out a message wouldn't it?
Brendan, I take your point. I guess it gets to a stage there is little that can be done to an individual apart from wait to lock them up, and some will turn 'bad' no matter how much effort is put into them so I guess it is more about trying to reduce crime rate as a whole without freaking out when everything is not ideal. For instance there will be others apart from those two who would also have been doing crime that some of the government programmes have helped.
