I expect many know that Gary has apparently hanged himself today. I am just wondering, other than depression, what massive events have caused him to end his life.

Paul....I agree with Maidup,,,,,it is natural to speculate , but unfortunately this will leave you wide open on AB to criticism.

I do not know what other aspects to his life existed other than depression that you mentioned in your post.

He apparently as well respected and a nice guy ta-boot.

hopkirk, no one here knows what happened, so we shouldn't be making assumptions.
OK
it is really none of our business , and any speculation is IMO so unnecessary
I completely agree, Anne, but there will always be people who are fascinated by other people's lives and misfortunes, especially celebrities. Why this is I can't begin to imagine. Don Henley wrote a song about it: http://en.wikipedia.o...dry_(Don_Henley_song)
what I found sad was that the when reporting on the minute silence at Anfield yesterday many outlets reported it was only for Gary Speed when it was initially arranged for the son of 'keeper Brad Jones who lost his young life to leukaemia. Both tragic, so why only talk about the one?
MarkRae Song choice, very true.
All Quizmonkey said was "perhaps it was accidental"
Can't see anything wrong with saying that.
Perhaps it was.
The news organisations were reporting 'he took his own life', and no one seems to have tried to deny that as far as I have seen.

Why let your wife & family discover this state. Do it elsewhere to save family agony.
No, no-one should be speculating as, as I said before, we know nothing. I mentioned the possibility of it being accidental as just that, a possibility.
"You say the family never found out why he did it. Hope this doesn't sound like a strange question but would the family want to know why he did it?"

missprim, at first i think so, because maybe they wanted to understand and probably might have wondered could they have spotted the signs/prevented it - he left 6 children and over 20 grandchildren behind. as with gary speed my uncle leading up the event gave the impression of a happily content man.

i think the saddest thing is not knowing, but then even if you knew, i don't think that would help anyway.
That's true ichkeria but it's usually children who accidently hang themselves and until quizmonkey says thats not what he meant then I'll take it that that's what was on his mind.

Well the rumour and thats all it is, says the sun was going to "out" him.

As I said its only a rumour but unfortnately the sort of rumour that will spread.

If this did turn out to be true then I would love to see, somehow, the police finding a way to bring charges against this so caled newspaper for bringing his suicide about.

Up until now these rags have basically been a law unto themselves hiding under the cover of a "free press" and "public interest", lets hope this Levenson inquiry will reign them right in.

They decide whats "public interest" and they fan the flames and make up and sensationalise non-events purely to increase sales not because they have some sort of collective conscience about something.

even thier campaigns about paedophiles arent purely altruistic, its all about sales sales and more sales.

they are scurilous low life
when I read QM's comment about accidental my first thought was OD. A sex game that had gone wrong would not have even crossed my mind.
It will be terrible for the family whatever stories bubble up.
my stepdad hung himself a few months ago in the family home and was in the garage for my mum to find. he did have lots of problems and probably was suffering in life, more than we realised. in a strange way knowing how low and troubled he was has help to deal with it in a small way.

on speaking to friends of his after it there was lots of signs in the way he was speaking to them eg he was saying whats the point in it all to one friend and spoke about private things you wouldn't mention to certain people. he visited his daughter which we found odd as they hadn't spoke for years. if maybe we'd heard how he'd been speaking to his friends we may have questioned his behaviour in the build up. he definately ticked a lot of the suicide boxes

but for gary it seems such a shock and there didn't seem to be any signs that even his close friends picked up on

i've watched gary's last appearance on football focus so many times just to watch his body language and he just seemed like a normal guy didn't seem to be shakey or anything

it seems to be the way of it though, they just go about normal life then decide to go. which is the hard thing for us to understand

i'm even asking questions about why gary would do it. to be on tv then 10 hours later did he wake through the night and decide to do it and had been there a few hours or had he just done it before his wife found him

we were roughly able to work out when my stepdad done it from when mum last spoke to him on the phone to when she found him

just lots of unanswered questions again
Oh Numnum, I'm so sorry to hear that.

All this must have revived so much pain for you and your mother.
hopkirk - yes it is really sad. i didn't know till earlier that he was found in the garage aswell and its so similar.

i've been watching a lot of the news and people talking and there all just asking the same questions we did. in a strange way its helping hearing about suicide because when it happened to us i was going through every website possible and chatrooms asking questions. it is so sad this has happened but hopefully suicide and depression will be spoken about more
