Scenario:
You have a 15 or 16 year old son who comes to you and say "Dad, Mom, (Mum), this is all a load of hogwash and I do not believe a word you say or what the Church preaches and the Bible is a lot of hogwash to explain the unexplainable.
He persists at this line and is adamant about it.
Do you kick him out of your house and family?
What would you do to a JW colleague in the same boat? Condone this action?
Just that there are reports that many JWs have done this to their offspring....

When I fostered young children a few years ago I was given a choice of children for my approval . I would accept any race any age or ability but no JW s . I could not condone their beliefs.
I had a very good friend at school who was a JW, her and her sister lived with their dad who was very strict. He beat her for getting her ears pierced, he also beat her when he found her in possession of a birthday card from me. He then hospitalised her when she ran away from home because she didn't want to be a JW any longer. Social Services removed her and her sister into care.
Agree with Ankou but can also understand flump's concern.
My daughter had a JW friend at school and she got into trouble with a birthday card from a mutual school friend. Not easy to explain to a five year old why they can't celebrate Christmas, birthdays etc when Jesus, "Son of God" is so central to Christianity (and was to the JWs until they changed direction - just like that).

I spent 18 months in the company of JWs. They tried their hardest to convert me and I tried my hardest to convince them that, with a very small leap of imagination, they could be Buddhists. Both sides failed.
During that time I got to know many of them on a personal level and discovered that nearly all of them came into the sect at a particularly low time of their lives (bereavement, relationship failior, generally being alone for one reason or another). The JWs then fill their lives with meetings, door knocking bible classes etc.
Should they stray, the final sanction is ostracism.
They can reel them in, fill their lives and then threaten leave them in the poor state which they were found.
I think that's appalling.

DT: I don't think that it true. I know JW families who have children who don't follow the same religion. I also know of catholic and anglican families who have kicked out their children. Muslim & Hindus do to. In fact it has been said muslims will kill their children, wife, family etc if they try to leave the faith. I have looked at many so called JW sites. I don't believe everything I see and hear, I would rather speak to the persons involved personally before I judge. Unlike you. No doubt you will say this is a copy & paste too.
