In a confidential letter to fellow Ministers, obtained by The Guardian,Michael Gove has floated the proposal of presenting the Queen,on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, with a brand new Royal Yacht. Is this a "Grand gesture"too far,or a fitting gift from a grateful nation?

Wait a minute
What happened to the money from Britiannia?
No idea, perhaps it went to the treasury as seems to happen these days.
^^ im sure the money went to subsidize the scottish people !
anne can't see the scots getting much out of it then, hadn't realised she is moored in Leith, couldn't they have found a berth down south, say portsmouth, southampton even.
It depends where it's built. If it's built in Britain it's just a way of the govt injecting a bit of cash into UK industry, and I have no problem with it.
If it's built anywhere else it's a disgraceful waste of money.
Maybe we should give a boost to the British aerospace industry and carve her likeness into the moon.
I don't think that would be technically feasible Krom. Building a boat would though.
I suspect that the hull was too corroded to go to sea, Just 'cos it floats doesn't mean it is seaworthy. It is quite old the life expextancy of a modern ship is about as long as a thatched roof.

Are there no depths the sick and insensitive anti Royalist mind of Gromit will sink in his quest to make him sound in the least funny?

This is twice in the same number of weeks that he has made a cheap remark wishing for our Monarch's death.

I thought about reporting his post, but I thought it would be best for others to see it before the ED removed it from view.
it would be nice to look up on a bright night and see a 5p coin crossing the heavens, Kromovaracun
he hasn't called for the monarch's death, aog, merely hinted that the monarchy may run aground some day.
It would be nice jno. Even better though if we could save the money and have an actual 5p crossing the heavens, fired from a royal catapult perhaps, and some sparklers. We can't be too extravagant in these tough times.

That's being questionably apologetic towards him jno, taking into account the fact that to date 6 passengers have lost their lives from this vessel 'running aground'.

Come off it, AOG, it was actually an amusing remark.....

What would it cost to resurrect Britannia and fit it out with ultra modern engines etc.

That would be a nice gesture as she treasured the old vessel......and it served its purpose in "selling" the UK, far more valuable than Prince Andrew.
And if a public fund is set up, I bet the private sector would finance it......and, therefore, two fingers to the anti-royalists. The one condition would be that any work should be in a British shipyard, preferably Northern Ireland or Barrow,.......
