Did anyone see this on Channel 4? - it must have been such a terrifying experience, I'm amazed that all the English dancers and the honeymoon couple got off the ship safely - especially the brave girl who had to climb up the sloping ship right to the very top in order to get on the rope ladder just to climb right down again into a lifeboat. Amazing footage from mobiles too, some not seen before. I wonder what will happen to the Captain?

as one of the more amusing (cynical) lines over on the joke page said, Ann, "he will be spending a lot of time in the dock in the months to come - which is more than can be said of his ship."

What a plonker....all this for vanity

They played the full conversation between the coastguard and the captain and quite honestly the coastguard was absolutely SHOUTING and swearing at him to get back on board and count the passsengers who needed saving - he either seemed shocked or couldn't care less, it was most odd to listen to.
news in the Torygraph is that the villagers are about to raise a class action for damages to their tourist business if the ship is not removed pronto and without any spills....they get a lot of wealthy yachts staying there apparently....probably were rust-buckets now they are claiming that thy were super-yachts.

The same thing happened in Santorini(greek islands) harbour a few years ago but the cruise liner has sunk without trace. We went there in 2008 and the locals were telling us all about it.

Yes its worth watching ....... bet the holiday cruises will go down in bookings! We have never fancied a cruise but certainly wouldn't go on one now after this!
i didn't watch it as its too early for anything insightful or conclusive to be presented in a documentary. especially a channel 4 one.
Actually Ann, apart from Costa, no other cruise line has been affected. I go on to the Cruise Critic site, where you can imagine the subject has been done to death (no pun intended). Several members are travel agents and have said they have had hardly any cancellations. Apparently one US 'chain' travel agent got a load of staff in to handle the calls they thought they were going to get on the Saturday morning and they had less than 10 cancellations from the whole US.
