Who pays for these Appeals? If it is Legal Aid,how do they qualify,Ordinary people can't get Legal Aid without a fight. The Appeals all seem to have Barristers as well.

He was charged with murder. He would have had legal aid for that trial. It follows that the legal aid covers an appeal, provided that his counsel has certified by a written opinion, that an appeal against sentence is justified.
Such trials have barristers, therefore the appeals have barristers.
