Will we read less from AOG?
// Elderly people should be encouraged to go back to work and move into smaller homes, one of David Cameron’s key advisers said last night. //
http://www.telegraph....ork-and-downsize.html
// He also suggested that elderly people who did not move to smaller homes were contributing to the shortage of housing in England. //
This is an outrageous attack on our more senior citizens and represents a Government that has list touch with the people.
I will miss AOGs daily musings, but on the plus side, seeing a fully stacked shell in Aldi is also satisfying.

Gromit are you really Jeremy Clarkson?
A couple of benefits a small amount of work for those fit enough would provide social interaction for those with no circle of family and friends, and possibly improve self esteem for those who maybe felt they no longer were able to be of value to society. Supplementing pensions eroded in value by external financial circumstances is not a bad idea either... Encouraged not compelled is the key
And I am still generally in support of the idea that those in social housing should be encouraged to down size with appropriate assistance and compensation... that to me would include having any new place fully redecorated and carpeted if the place they were leaving was in similar order and all removals arranged for them and all costs of the move covered. For some it might mean someone arranging for notifying services, utilities etc too.
All those entering the social housing system would do so on the basis they have a right to be housed but not the right to stay in the allocated property should their circumstances change.
Anyway who says shelf filling is an appropriate option... there are a lot of highly skilled and intelligent seniors out there...
AOG could write freelance articles for various journals and reach a wider audience
Gromit... perhaps there is an opening in A wooden spoon factory.... quality control maybe...

I hope not. The News section would be rather depleted without him. I rarely agree with his views - but I think he's being bullied here.
Mark, do put a sock in it dear. Your continual criticism of others is not only extremely boring to read – it adds nothing of significance to any thread.

Like many people on this site, I rarely agree with AOG, but unlike many people on this site and on this thread, I don't see AOG as fair game for ridicule, insults, sarcasm and little more than a punchbag.
Those that do indulge themselves in using AOG as a cyber punchbag were, I suspect, either bullies or bullied at school.
