I don't think the Government knows, but I suspect certain departments in the MOD etc have their theories.

Does the mod get involved in the supernatural and research labs hybrid animals boxtops? I can see them being involved in Asteroids and ufos but not the others however i could be wrong.

I know for a fact that they do answerprancer but just how many things they don't let us know about is the real question, if you click on my profile you'll see my last question and you'll know what i mean, also governments are constantly "just releasing" confidentual files on ufos and whenever an asteroid just misses us we always seem to hear of it afterwards which tells us that they knew. One day will we suddenly get a news report that an asteroid hit is immenent and will be destroying the world in 24 hours? I believe so. Are there such things as alien lifeforms, have the government got alien crafts or beings locked aways somewhere? This is possible.

Area 51 in nevada is also a hot spot for ufo gossip, and I do think there is something in it. Of course governments do not tell us everything, we would probably be unable to sleep at nights.

If the "government" knows they, hopefully, have more sense than to tell the public. Even a minor emergency causes panic buying at supermarkets. What could the mass of people do about it anyway? I suspect there's a lot the politicians are not told but I have no idea what it might be and dont want to know.
