Sad. He is one year older than me and part of my youth. Started out in Coronation Street all those years ago. Monkees - probably the original put together boy band.

Tragic.

The Monkees were a fabulous band - for ther songs written for them by Boyce & Hart, and their own - I think Alternate Title is one of the greatest pop songs ever written.

the Monkees were manufactured - the "Prefab Four" was right - but they learnt to play and produced some good stuff. They had the best of tin pan alley writing for them, but I also liked the less commercial songs like Alternate Title and Randy Scouse Git.

I always felt sorry for Davy - the 'lead singer' in the band, and the drummer and the guitar player both had better voices than he did!

Mickey Dolenz wrote this song on a visit to England, and was very taken with the comedy show 'Til Death Us Do Part', where he heard the famous insult from Alf Garnet to his son-on-law - 'Lazy Scouse Git' and decided to title his song after the phrase - having absolutely no idea what it meant, or that it would be seen as offensive over here.

The record label told him he couldn't use the phrase, so he'd have to come up with an alternate title ... and he took them at their word.

Fantastic song - based on his experiences being feted by EMI Records, and 'the being known as "Wonder Girl"' - who was Samantha Juste, record spinner on the embryonic Top Of The Pops, and soon to be Mrs Dolienz.
