I am just watching QT - and Starkey speaks as though he is talking to congenital idiots - everything has to be said verrrry slowly, with emphasis on every word. Again it is tha hallmark of the terminally arrogant that they talk to everyone as though their listener speaks English as a second language. the man is a buffoon.

You describe David Starkey as such;
/// Starkey is both pompous and rude in equal measure, the very criticisms he likes to level at others. ///
/// Lots of hot air and insults, body-langaug of the terminally self-righteous, ///
/// the man is a buffoon. ///
And then you go on to rudely say,
/// I have to say, never having seen or met AOG, Starkey reminds me of what he may be like. ///
I find this totally uncalled for.
I had not even entered into this debate and yet you took the opportunity to name me in your comparison with Dr Starkey just because it seems that we both don't toe your 'Party' line.
This is not unusual, such insults are banded about, if one dares to disagree with the Left's bigoted and arrogant views, although unlike yourself many do not pretend to be supporters of honest and friendly debate, while underneath carrying a sense of hatred towards their opposition.
So don't bother to apologise once again Andy, i have heard it all before, and I now know what you really think about me.
Goodbye.

AOG - and others
'my' post - since removed, being extremely rude and personal to AOG was posted by a colleague as a 'joke' when I left my PC unattended and open for a brief period. He is aware of my long-standing difference of views with that particular gentleman, and thought it amusing to add some banter under my name.
I am embarassed to find that this has been done, and I wish to apologise unreservedly to AOG for any upset and offence caused - and to anyone who read the post, which appears to have been removed.
I have taken steps to ensure that my PC cannot be accessed in this way, and would once again offer my sincere and unreserved apologies to AOG.
We have had our differences, and our occasional spats, but I would never insult another AB'er - or indeed anyone anywhere in this fashion.
I do hope that my apologiy will be accepted, and the incident forgotten - I can assure all involved that there will not be a recurrence of this type of post supposedly written by me - I will make sure of that.

I thought you had chosen not to continue any further with this thread hence my delay in replying, but I have now seen your recent post referring me back to this thread.
First let me say I did not report the offensive post, as you can see I said everything I had to say in my posted reply.
I pointed out in that post that I would not accept any further apologies from you, but because of the exceptional circumstances that you pointed out, I am prepared to accept this 'excuse' as genuine, as I have no reason to question your honesty.
So Andy I fully accept your apologies over this matter, and draw a line under our differences for now.
All I must add however is that I am most surprised with the fact that you choose to discuss me with your colleague, and then perhaps have a good laugh at my expense, so much so that he chose to go to such lengths so as to continue the merriment.

AOG - thank you for your post.
I have no wish to prolong any lingering hostility, and as you have had your final word, i feel it appropriate to have mine -
putting the word 'excuse' in inverted commas could lead to the inference that you think it not valid. However, that is not the issue becuase it was not an 'excuse' - I did not seek to excuse what occured - merely to explain and aologies, which I did.
Discuss - yes, in passing, but we have not 'had a good laugh at your expense - i am not so immature as to behave in that way.
So - hopefully the matter is at rest.

/// putting the word 'excuse' in inverted commas could lead to the inference that you think it not valid. ///
Not in the least,
First let me explain, I put the word excuse in inverted commas, simply because at the time I could not think of another way to describe it, taking that on board I did not want you to misunderstand me that is why I added;
"as I have no reason to question your honesty".
In hindsight perhaps a better word would have been 'explanation', which you will notice I have also enclosed in inverted commas for no apparent underhanded reason.
/// Discuss - yes, in passing, but we have not 'had a good laugh at your expense - i am not so immature as to behave in that
way. ///
Obviously in discussing me, you had described me in an inflammatory way, why else would your colleague choose to send me such a descriptive post, since he should not know me from Adam?

AOG - thank you for your explanation - as we have mutually confirmed many times, it is possible for meanings to be mis-translated on receipt from the intention in transmission.
As for your statement that I discussed you in am 'inflamatory way' - I can assure you I did not - I cannot speak for my colleague's perception since he was merely one of a number of people present when a discussion about internet forums, and individuals on them took place in my office.
Yours was one of a number of AB'er's names mentioned - it is unfortunate that the DS thread was open on my PC when i was not in attendance - otherwise it could have been any of a number of other individuals who were mentioned - none in any more dosparaging terms than any others I assure you.

AOG - the course of the conversation, I referred to DS, and a little later, mentioned you as being a right-winger of forthright views who would always fight your corner, and did not suffer fools. I can only assume he thought I made a comparison - which I did not. My mention of yourself and DS was to advise that you are more able to conduct a vigourous debate than the eminent DS, who does seem merely to talk over his opposition.
