Would it had been sexiest as well as homophobic if they had also refused to give a rose to a male partner of a gay diner?

as I pointed out in my post, gay relationships are every bit as complex as heterosexual relationships, there is no division of roles along the lines you suggest - and I was at pains to poiint out that such an assumption is an out-of-date stereotyping which should be well on its way out in 2012.
If we follow your logic, that means that all men must mow the lawn, pay the biills, go out to work, wear a suit, smoke a pipe and ignore the children, and all women must cook, clean, stay at home, have tea on the table when hubby comes in, and submit to sex whenever he demands it.
It's not like that is it? It's not like that for 'Jo and Joanne' either.

Read the whole of this thread and are still wondering why a man, gay or straight, can't be offered a rose (or flowers generally, and in quantity, come to that). Is it some insult ? If it is, it's cultural here. Certainly in a male gay partnership the rose should be offered, since it's a symbol of romance. It's just convention that a woman receives it in the heterosexual partnership.
