// We wanted a western friendly government installed instead of a anti western fundamentalist Islamic dictatorship which was there before. //
I want a date with Alexandra Burke!

Just because you want something does not mean that you are entitled to have it, or that it is in everyone's interest if you use military force to get what you want.

That applies to troops in Afghanistan, or me waving a pistol at Jermain Defoe.
We either fight them over there or over here, where do you want the bullets flying?
johnk - it is because we fight them over there that we will have to fight them over here.

I would rather no bullets were flying, but that some dialogue with the Taliban was taking place, to try and resolve differences.

Since it is patently clear that advising another country that you take exception to its hostility by invading it has failed to work anywhere in the world, isn't it time to acknowledge that the Taliban have more right to a say in thier country's governance than we do, and act accordingly?

As I have opined many times before, the definition of 'terrorism' depends where you are standing, and who's gun barrell you are looking down.
They were attacking us before we went in and when we leave they will attack us again. So glad I don't live in London
johnk - 'they' were a small militant group of extremists. That equates with invading England because the EDL are bombing abroad - you cannot punish a country for the actions of a seriously small minority of its population.

And if 'they' are going to carry on attacking us, then the whole invasion and the obcene loss of life has really been for nothing.

And the ones that attacked us were our own home grown terrorists, they were not the Taliban all the way from Afghanistan.
better steer clear of Glasgow airport too, johnk
I am with anotheroldgit on this one, which makes a change for me!
You are so right andy-hughes etc and I have have expressed exactly the same views. Poor Gromit, Jack or Jake etc., you do not learn from history. Don't make us laugh over Vietnam withdrawal was due to public pressure Jake. Un-thought out conlicts (note: we don't go to war any more - we get involved in "conflicts"). The former USSR govt did not chose to leave but were forced to do so by public opinion after the loss of 11,000. We have lost wars/conflicts before and then handed over power to our "enemies". Examples are now ex-colonies e.g handed over to Archbishop Makarios or Mau-mau. The predominant power, in a tribal state which wishes to remain that way, are the Taliban. We could reach peaceful agreement with the Taliban and Afghans. However this can't happen while we and Allies go on killing their innocent women and children. Similarly impossible if we set up a "puppet" leader, Khazi. Even this puppet is against women's rights. He'll just grab all the bribes he can and then flee to France or Switzerland or dare I say U.K.? Bet you still don't gettit Gromit, Jack-the-hat or Jake-the-peg etc. You are beyond hope of seeing what's in front of your face and beyond remption for future deaths. I pity you.
