So how can you get done for kidnap of your own daughter? The only circumstance I can see is that her ex had custody.

She arranged with a relative to hide her daughter at his flat so she could report her missing and get a reward posted, the relative would then 'find' the child and claim the reward.

She claimed her daughter had been abducted.
A huge manhunt was launched.
She cracked after about 23 days and told the Police.
The daughter was found imprisoned at the home of one of Karen Matthews friends/boyfriends.

she and gormles bf hatched a plot to ' kidnap' her daughter Shannon (who was actually all the time quite safe at a flat half a mile away) and claim some sort of £50k reward money for her turning up- or ransom- or something along those lines. I can't remember in detail, but the kid came to no harm essentially. cost about £4 million quid to look for her though and they both got 8 years.
