i was about to help with someone's crossword on here, and one answer was about to give, then looked up a clue which i thought would fit. I opened out the content to be faced with a truly horrible image of a very young girl in a pose usually seen on the pages of porn mags. To say i had a shock is putting this mildly. She didn't look more than 14, what on earth is this world coming to when you can seemingly look up stuff without any warnings whatsoever this might be adult content, i am truly disgusted.

wow, that was some clue!
Not sure what else to say
It is claimed that a third of all Internet downloads are porn. Is it beyond the power of man to get rid of all this and clean up the Internet . I was trying to look up someones phone number on the Internet and instead was offered access to a lot of iffy services in their town, with pictures in case I was on any doubt what was on offer. The changing pix included porn.

oj, was hoping no one would make light of this, the fact is this shouldn't happen, at least the content should be labelled in some way. Imagine opening a website in all innocence and finding the images staring back at you is someone you know, your child, sister, friend, it's horrible. The girl looked underage, how could she or someone put images like that on a computer. Perhaps i am old fashioned, but this has really rocked me.

em, shocking I know, It appears these sites specifically use 18 year old girls that look like they are very young so they can stay within the law yet appeal to the pervs. Still sickening and yes of course some pictures on the net are of actual children. I think it is slowly being stamped out but im sure its a difficult process.
The Internet is an open book, and the search engines bring the pages to you. Google at least has a filter you can set if it offends you. Meanwhile I'm curious as to what you could have possible typed in as the clue.

did it start with C and end with T
with a U and a N in the middle?

COCONUT!
Years back I searched for Deacon Blue. Guess what I got...
ummm - just googled 'deacon blue' and the first 5 pages are all (apart from one IMdB reference to a director) about a Scottish group formed in 1985 which I assume was not your result!!!
Isn't there some sort of filter that censors unwanted images?
Em, on the assumption that the offensive content was delivered in the form of an image file, then it is almost certainly still lurking in your browser's cache and/or temporary files. Therefore, do whatever steps are necessary to clear these (it will depend on which browser you use) and get rid of it from your machine.

mark i use firefox, and delete the history on a daily basis, is that what you meant. And i wish someone would find a way to block these images.
I am not a prude, but this was really awful.

OG i am not saying for fear others may think it funny to have a look.
It's not the history which is just a list of addresses. It's the picture file itself in the Net temporary files folders. It wouldn't bother me but Mark is clearly more thoughtful and suggests you blitz those temporary folders. Not sure the best way, maybe running CCleaner might do it.
As Markrae says, it is something lurking in your cache em, otherwise on searhcing the word, you'd be presented with a list of options which you could choose whether or not to click on.

You probably need to delete all temporary files and have a general clean out. Nothing to do with your history really. Others can help you with this better than I.
To put your mind at rest it is highly unlikely that the girl was infact underage!

perhaps some can advise in a non technical way, many thanks. Not a technophobe, just don't know where all the info is to look.
I thought you'd already had a look ?
