Which, apparently, the CBI now call tax management, not tax avoidance.

Are some of us more "in this together" than others?

Yes, we are all in it together. Some of us are in it up to our necks while others are daintily treading their way through it in order not to get the soles of their shoes muddied.

It's the hypocrisy that gets me really.
It's a difficult area. Is using an ISA, for example, or putting all your savings in the name of non-paying tax partner also tax avoidance/management?

Fair point factor, and one I did try to acknowledge in the op.

Isn't there a real difference though, between doing that, inside the UK system and open to us all, and systematically structuring tax affairs so they fall completely outside UK citizens' liabilty?
