/// A British homeless man said it had become too dangerous to sleep out in central London because of Romanian gangs roaming around at night thieving at knifepoint. ///
What should be done about the influx of coachloads of Romanian pickpockets and prostitutes which are arriving in the capital every day?
For those who say life in our capital is no different now to what it was in the 50s, must be under a false impression, because we are moving very quickly towards being a third world country.

Unlike some, I employ the very best without recourse to prejudice. The best team of builders I've used is run by a London Greek bloke who employs Eastern Europeans.
They are better than any British company I've used and I would only every use him and his crew, because they are a known element.
Oh - we did employ a British company to supply and fit a number of mirrored doors to our new bedroom wardrobes.
They smashed them on the way to our house.

Now come to think of it - who remembers the (horrible) story of the homeless bloke who was set alight whilst he slept in London a few years back?
AOG - pretty sure that wasn't caused by Romanians.
Actually - should we be narrowing it down so explicitly? Shouldn't we simpy say 'Eastern Europeans'?
Also, has anyone actually done a study on this, or are we simply believing a report in the Daily Mail (c'mon people - how many times...?)

homeless people get picked on because many are vulnerable adults, either alcoholics, or into drugs, worse still those who have been left to the mercy of the streets suffering from some form of mental illness. They can be turned over by others if they have money, some do, perhaps benefits, and sometime just for the fun of it. A good friend lived on the streets for many years, and the stories i heard were hair raising, but not really that surprising.
I met one of our notorious street drinkers in the jobcenre the other day and he was as sober as a judge and a little shaken, he confirmed that yes these happenings are taking place, and their being robbed for their begging money, drugs and alcohol hence him being in the jobcentre, surely anything that stops the homeless getting drunk, getting drugged up and scared into the jobcenters to try and change their lives around is a good thing?
My response to an aog thread on Sunday;
"I have never mocked or abused but despite that have not been answered either, it seems the OPer only answers what suits his viewpoint and does not really want an open or frank debate.
I have in the past had to have some of his replies removed due to abusive content"

you have to have an address to sign on. That is as far as i remember, the rules may have changed since that time. However they are perhaps benefits one can get if homeless, plus any number sell the Big Issue, which is money in your pocket. Sadly those i have come across are usually putting that money towards the next drink.
mickey, i think your words are a bit insensitive, people can fall through the cracks of social services as quick as you can blink, and i have seen it happen any number of times. And getting people of drink or drugs is not as easy as some might think. It can be done, but the person has to want to. My friend didn't, and it killed him in the end.
I agree with flip flop about this. Many of these homeless people park them selves on park benches and spend the rest of their time making the area smell heavily of urine. Maybe the Romanians are doing us some sort of favour by moving the homeless on. There is no need for them to be out in the open. They have been offered hostel accommodation but they refuse it.
Boo, unfortunately we need tough love here with our drunks, druggies, unruly teenagers and unemployed loafers, many of these people see others as victims and take take take and it's only when the kind public, parents, partners put their feet down and stop the niceness and give them ultimatums then they realise they have to change and later on gon on to say yes they took liberties as the others werem waek and had they been tougher they may have not got so deep into their problem. Just the other day in america parent were locking up their kids for a day to scare them from becoming criminals later on and my guess is it will work, toughlove.
some on here obviously have never been to a hostel, if you had you wouldn't be so critical about some of the homeless. The same friend had to be out of the hostel early, shoved out the door whatever the weather, and not go back till late. So he felt it was better to be on the streets full time, and no i don't know why.
He got a place eventually but it just wasn't enough. I know at least half a dozen others who have gone the same way, and believe me they couldn't control the habit of drinking.

Micky, do you think that if the situation/resolution was a simple as you imply there would be any homeless people? People become homeless for all sorts of reasons. A lot of teenagers become homeless because they are running away from abuse at home. Tough love? Some of them haven`t had any love at all, tough or otherwise.
