And !!!!
lol....But he moans if we call him 'git'
Oxford Concise Dictionary gives it as; an unpleasant or contemptible person
He was right after all then?
Thank you Ron for bringing this up.

I used this name when I first joined AnswerBank and when the site had a better class of member than it seems to have today.

In those early days I thought that being rather senior to the majority I would be light heartedly and affectionately treated as just another 'old git' airing his views, just as the TV show Grumpy Old Men.

But It seems now, that some just take the opportunity to shorten it down to old-git and to use it aggressively, in it's derogative term of use, take some of these replies to your question.

When I receive some answers it makes me wonder if some talk to their Fathers, Grandfathers or even their great grandfathers in such a way?
If the cap fits....
AOG - my late father was a grumpy old git and my first cat (adopted as a teenager) was a grumpy old git. I loved both of them dearly. It may be a term of respect or affection.

I don't think that you are unpleasant of contemptible at all - you just like to enliven the discussion in the NEWS section.

AN O THE OLD GIT - where's your R?
in those days there was a maximum of 12 letters in user names. That doesn't seem to be the case any more
..."the site had a better class of member than it seems to have today."

Comments on this remark, anyone?
it's certainly gone downhill since the days of *Banned Member* and *Banned Member* and *Banned Member*, mrs_o
Mrs_O.....if i didn't know you better, I would think that you were a "troublemaker"......like a "dog with a bone".........can't wait to "stick your oar in"....................but I do know you better....??
Thank you wolf63, and thank you also jno for providing wolf63 with the correct answer regarding my missing 'R'.
Sqad - moi? A troublemaker?

You must be confusing me with another of the AB'ers who is not quite top class ;-)
jno & AOG - dash, I was looking for some clever reason why anotheroldgit[i was being spelled [i]anotheoldgit] .

And this friggin italics better work this time or I shall be awfully annoyed.
anotheroldgit [i was being spelled [i] anotheoldgit ] .

I am mighty annoyed.
I don't think I liked the better class of ABer - an awful lot of them used to be very rude and insulting, but perhaps that's yer upper classes for you.
Last try

anotheroldgit[i was being spelled [i]anotheoldgit]

Where am I going wrong with the italics?
I've given up even trying, wolf - just go back to inverted commas!
Walk away from the italics...
