We keep being ask to conserve water, and because of this I wrote to a well known toilet manufacture to ask, if we all had better shaped toilet bowls we could save millions of gallons of water, owing to me having to flush mine at least twice to clean the bowl. Their answer was, the amount of water to fully clean a toilet bowl is a British standerd of 4.5 litres. It seemed that the shape of the pan was not an issue with them, only a modern design, so I would like to know how many other people has to flush their toilet more than once.

Our loo's what...?
I would have thought that it depends upon what is in it.
Answer the question or don't bother posting Mark. You really are tedious at times.

And, to answer the question. I only need to flush once.
New design at new hospital much steeper narrower 'exit' plumbing apparently use far less water as nowhere for solids to stick...
i placed a milk bottle in my cistern some years ago, so it saved a pint every time i flushed.

without getting too yeukee, in order to save even more water, these days i flush after every three visits to urinate..but always every time i go for the other.

to keep it clean i pour some bleach in at regular intervals
Surely it depends on the water pressure to some extent. Our downstairs loo only needs one flush, upstairs with water from the tank it sometimes needs two. And as has been said it depends what you are trying to flush or clean away :o(
Is that at the new Q E rowan, if so I have seen them.
I like a rhyme an American friend told me, If it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow let it mellow. Since moving and having a water meter, OH is very keen on this
I use bleach on a daily basis, but get told off by Mr LL because we have a septic tank and not mains drainage, and I am apparently killing off the bacteria which makes it function correctly.
..mm...upstairs,,3 times even for a piece of paper or a mini-floater.......downstairs...once, whatever is in the pan....I am convinced that the shape of the bowl, hence the pattern of the actual water flow is the culprit....can't see any other reason...
I hate going to the loo where 'wee' remains from someone else, it makes me heave
I think I flush too much although I do have a turbo flush which usually does the job, unless it's a Captains log.
Do you keep logging the bog, Misso?
misso wasn't bothered by your answer Mark, you are marked as Best Answer (lol).
lol.....ummmm, I think Mark was just gently chiding misso on her use of the dreaded apostrophe s.....loos/loo's.....:-)
I'm not sure it's possible to flush the bathroom sink.......

Thank you all for your answers.
Commoner - I know that. It's not gentle 'chiding' (I've never heard that word!!) There is nothing gentle in it.....he openly looks down on people who do not happen to have the same high standards as him. It was a put down. Being put down for the odd stray apostrophe is really not good form.

It makes me angry...

He knows nothing about the background of posters and he should, with his intelligence, understand that we are not all educated to the same level.
The standard German loo has an awful "inspection shelf" which, despite Germany's determination to be green, means flushing more than once when there are what Rowanwitch describes as solids. I hate the things.
Ok ummm...well you seem to know Mark better thaan I do but as it has been chosen best answer...what can I say?...just seemed like a little joke to me....sorry if my answer upset you...no offense meant I assure you..

...and G0d bambi I remember using one of those "loos with a view" in Switzerland....it all sits there on a shelf looking for your approval or otherwise....Heh heh. Gruesome..is not the word!
