No.

Having children is a lifestyle choice - I fail to see why my taxes should pay for anybody's (straight or gay) lifestyle choice.

The NHS exists to enhance health, an important part of which is mental health. The severe pain felt by same-sex couples who want to have children but can’t, in addition to the pain already caused them by the attitudes of bigoted heterosexuals and the constraints of archaic legislation, makes them proper subjects of NHS concern and resources. As indeed are any other people victimised because of their unconventional life-styles.

OK I know I'm going to get it in the neck for this but, here goes. Homosexuality is normal it occurs throughout nature. Agree so far? Right now in nature those perfectly normal animals that are attracted to the same sex will live out their lives and not reproduce, natural selection, darwin, logic, call it what you like but those genes will not go forward, they are in fact a dead end, still with me? Right so translate that to humans, are we so arrogant as to consider ourselves any different to the rest of nature? I therefore conclude that Homesexual couples should not reproduce, they should live out a happy normal, hopefully less skint ,life! The fact that science is able to circumvent the above is not a reason to do it.
d91c7............;-)

A good argument, well put, to which I can add very little.
d9f1c7, 1st sensible answer I've seen.
df - very well put!
I agree.
Thank you, I was expecting rocket!
d9f, I don't have a rocket but I can slap you with a pair of Marigolds if it will make you feel better?
Strangely I find myself disagreeing.

I do not seek to deny homosexual couples the option of having a child. There is no reason they could not make excellent, loving parents.

I simply object to the NHS being used to do this.

If they wish to go down the turkey baster route then that's fine.

Wrong - with a capital W - on so many counts

That's a very naive view of genetics - Don't have time for the details but just for starters there are recessive genes.

By your logic all sorts of fatal genetic anomalies would soon vanish
i am of the firm belief there should be no gastric band ops, IVF for anyone
on the NHS, no health tourism, pay or don't get treated. Include in that any kind of breast enlargement programme, or breast reduction. If you want those things pay for it. the service is overloaded as it is. Then stop all hospitals paying megabucks to endless consultants, put nurses back on the wards treating patients, not constant form filling. Bring back inhouse cleaning to all hospitals, so no costly private cleaning companies. It seems that there is a good deal of waste in the NHS, cut much of the dead wood, sorry that sounds a bit off. And stop chucking people out the door who haven't quite recovered from their ops, it usually means they end up back there, so costing twice as much. Next x x
Natural selection jake, any animal that fails to breed, will end that line.
i would rather money was given to mental health hospitals, units that are being closed down in cost cutting measures. That has a damn sight longer term problems, where more and more people are being left to their own devices, sometimes ending up in jail. when they really should be looked after in a hospital, or at a day unit.
breast reductions paid for by the NHS always have a medical basis, usually spinal problems. breast enlargements plain old don't happen. Breast implantation (different) is used post surgery, usually cancer surgery. It doesn't matter whether your cleaners are in house or a purchased service (and purchased services can be cheaper and more stable) provided that it is properly monitored and managed.
woofgang, that is the big problem if you forgive me, people thinks that the NHS is a bottomless pit, and that you can get all these treatments, but where is the money coming from to pay for it all.
that's my point em10, you cant get boob jobs. I agree about IVF, the gastric band thing may actually save money. Its no fun at all and certainly won't turn you from a whale to a model without very serious and unpleasant lifestyle changes.
Agree with pretty much what woof said. Gastric bands more likey to save money in the long term than deal with all the complications that come from obesity.
Agree with woof and china - the NHS is streamlining overfast at the moment, but at least they're working to get rid of the massive annual overspend of past years.
some things they are getting rid are absolutely vital, and won't save money in the longer term.
