i confess that custard and i never really hit it off, but i am beginning to revise my opinion slightly.. as long as something like chocolate goes in it.
as a treat mind you.
Think im the only person ever who liked and still does like school dinners!
About 15 years ago I had a part time job in a primary school canteen, and put on crap loads of weight as i was eating all the leftovers- they were delicious!
One of my favourite puddings was the jamy sponge with coconut on top.
Also, to this day I have never been able to find the recipe for the chocolate pie they used to serve. It had a mousse-like filling and had a swirl of something resembling cream on the top.
I just read the whole thing - what a lovely, bright wee girl! I must confess to having a bit of a tear in my eye at her last entry, but hopefully she'll be posting again since the ban has been lifted. She's raised an awful lot of money for a nine year old - and for such a good cause. Good on you Martha!
Good god - that pic in the BBC article is appalling. How can they possible serve that up to children?! Because most of them will at least attempt to eat it I suppose.
Chocolate sponge cake with chocolate-flavoured 'custard'. To this day, I can remember how grim that was...and they also used to serve a meat and potato dish that used to test my gag reflex every time I ate it.
Not sure what the meat was exactly...probably some poor beast who came a cropper at Beeches Brook...
