I thought about putting this in the sport section, but hopefully someone here can help me.......

My long-suffering good lady is a Wimbledon fan and watches ardently every year. I would love to treat her next year and was wondering where you can apply to get tickets? I have Googled "Wimbledon tickets" and found only touts charging ridiculous prices and, while I don't mind splashing out on her, I can't/won't pay those prices, nor would she be very pleased if I did.

I'm not looking for the stars and the moon, just a seat at Wimbledon in the early rounds and the chance of a player we might both recognise, male or female. Any advice greatfully received.

If you can't get tickets buy her some DVDs of her favourite matches...........I've got quite a library and watch them time and again.
anyone going to Wimbledon, as you have probably discovered gets their tickets very early. The Centre Court tickets are almost impossible to get hold of. I attended with a mate some years back, she received two tickets in the ballot, but not for the main courts.
my wife has life membership of the lawn tennis association, as a result we get to apply for tickets each year. but, we have to list in order the days we want to go, ie mens final, womens final, middle saturday etc. even thought the membership lets us beat the rest of the public, we still have to be placed in a ballot and usually don't get our first choice.

Although, I would say, whilst the final is what everyone wants, we generally try to go for the middle saturday as you see more tennis.

try asking at your local tennis club that is registered with the LTA , they might be able to get you tickets.
I applied through the ballot in December and was allocated 2 Front Row Seats for Court 1 on the Middle Saturday @ £60 each.
I've applied twice and was only sucessful once through the ballot.

To one and all, many, many thanks for your help.

You have no idea how many Brownie points I will earn if this comes off.

dianahoohar - you said that you applied in December, but when did you hear the result as I need to plan ahead for work?
Sorry for the late reply. I've just seen your latest comment. I got a letter from them in February. Then you pay for the tickets and you don't find out what seats they are until they send the tickets out the following month. You have to send your application for the ballot between 1st August and 15th December. You will find details on how to do this by following this link:- http://www.wimbledon....5091336562669724.html
Good luck.
We had a lovely day on Saturday and it stayed dry all afternoon.
Oops, I meant to say you receive tickets about a month before the match.
