What is your view of this scenario....

I introduced myself to the new neighbour who was faffing in his garden. We chatted pleasantly and he then invited me in for a look around, as he takes me into the kitchen he explained that I would meet the nervous dog. Beautiful boxer stands up out of her bed and wanders out of kitchen. I ask if she is OK to wander as front door is open, 'yeah, she'll be fine'. Go to leave and dog is nowhere to be seen.

Of we go looking for dog, who has a good ten minutes on us. Can't find her and other everyone asked has not seen her.

He gets in his car and goes off looking, is back in 20 minutes. Good, I think he's found her.

20 minutes later I head out and he is back in the garden faffing, 'you've got her back then?' I ask.

No, I've just had a call from my partners daughter (and owner of dog), a driver found the dog on the side of the road injured and has taken it to the vets. The vet rang partners daughter to inform her and she rang the new neighbour wanting to know where her dog was.

He is continuing to faff in the garden/garage/house while his partners daughter leaves work and drives 20 miles to the vet to find out how her dog is, he is just 5 minutes away from the vets.

I am trying not to let this colout my judgement of the man but how the hell can he not go to the vet to make sure the animal he was supposedly looking after is OK???

Surely this isn't normal behaviour?

If it was me, I wouldn't have left the front door open (him not you) maybe he doesn't like the dog.
fookin hell! If one of ours buggered off i would be out of my mind!!! I would be to the vets like a shot apologising profusely!

I did sense some resentment towards the dog but, even so, take it out on partners daughter not the really rather beautiful boxer!
No, I wouldn't have left the door open either, I do hope he's alright!
She's alright, I mean.
That's awful. Poor thing, I hope it's ok. I agree with woofy.
Not Normal At All .

I'm actually even more paranoid about doors/gates with visiting dogs than I am with my own two - and in your scenario I'd be at the vet's at least until the owner arrived.
eccles you now know your new neighbour is not an animal lover.
If I was dog sitting and that happened I'd be at the vets checking on the dog, paying the bill and crying.
He sounds like he has a screw loose....
There are some strange people in this world. He's not normal.
Dopey so and so. He's probably pleased he won't be asked to look after the dog again, I hope not anyway. Hope his partner gives him hell, and her daughter. Stupid, stupid man. And poor poor dog.
I would be at the vets with the dog, bet he never gets asked to look after the dog again.

I'm so gobsmacked by his cavalier attitude. I really don't fancy being in his shoes tonight.

I would really like to know how the dog is though :-(
stupid man !
Eccles - that has made my heart sink - poor dog. I hope it recovers well and is never left with him again. What a total pillock :(
What an absolute cock, how heartless are some people i would be fuming if it was my dog the poor thing :-(
if you are an animal lover you would feel responsible and be at that vets in seconds unfortunately not everyone feels like this, I help with a dog rescue when I can and some people are bloody heartless.
Any news on the dog this morning Eccles?
Question Author
No news I'm afraid, apart from the fact that I am still seething!

I'm trying not to read too much into the fact that the daughter didn't stay at the house last night.

When I do find out more I'll post an update.
