Why bother if they are accused of being oppressive and disruptive? It is not the time to delay because of certain sensitivities, if they think they know who these terrorists are, then they should act immediately, and so remove the threat.

As one who grew up in Northern Ireland I often wished for more-direct action against terrorists on all sides, but it can be counter-productive. The resultant propaganda can also be a huge recruitment factor for future low lifes.
Incidentally, how many of those who would carry out these atrocities would, in reality, consider themselves to be "our countrymen"?

I'm beginning to suspect that our excellent police service is a few steps ahead in the fight against terrorism.
I say this because of the absolute and complete lack of any atrocities during the Jubilee weekend.
Not a squeak - when the eyes of the world were on the UK. If I were a terrorist (and I am not), I would see the crowds in the Mall as a perfect opportunity for creating ultimate chaos.
Perhaps the police know more about policing than us?
