/// Olympic legend Michael Johnson says a ‘superior athletic gene’ in the descendants of West African slaves means black American and Caribbean sprinters will command the sport at the London Games ///

I always thought that it was 'racist' for one race to consider themselves superior to others?

they used to say the italians and jews made better boxers, but surely they were just the poorest and most desperate in the east end at the time ...
It's a fair point jake, but it doesn't explain where are all the white American sprinters are. They can't all have chosen cycling and swimming.
Well, from a purely anatomical point of view there is a anatomical difference between the *** and the white Caucasian giving them an advantage in the short distance sprints.

The talus (heel bone) of the *** protrudes and hence the Achilles tendon which is inserted into the talus is longer and forms a greater angle with the talus giving it an advantage in fast, short distance running.

Black sprinters will always predominate in the sprint events.
Why the word N.E.G.R.O is filtered. i fail to understand.
Interesting, sqad.
I made the correction Zeuhl because the slave ships were run mainly by white people - so both black and white people were to blame and as cathfromsaron hinted an abomination on both sides.
He probably is being unintentionally racist. There is no scientific basis to his assertion. He is simply wrong.
* obviously they did what they could to save themselves!
<There is no scientific basis to his assertion.>

Really Gromit?

So your counter to Sqad's explanation based no doubt on his training in anatomy is what?
Systems of servitude and slavery were common in many parts of the Africa as they were in much of the ancient world. In some African societies the enslaved people were also indentured servants and fully integrated but in others they were treated much worse. When the Arab slave trade and Atlantic slave trade began many local slave systems changed and began supplying captives for slave markets outside of Africa.
Sqad it wasn't filtered in Andy Hughs earlier post

I think the essence of racism is to denegrate a race by virtue of their ethnicity - I believe Mr Johnson is simply passing on what he perceives as being a biological fact, and that in my view is not a racist stance.

Negroes have black skin - fact - no racism involved.

Negroes are lazy feckless thieves - opinion - racist.

That to be is the difference in the two attitudes.

If you Google "physiology black sprinters" there is a wealth of scientific (published, peer-reviewed) papers that support the idea that blacks are better sprinters than whites for physiological reasons. I'm not sure why it's racist to make this observation, any more so than it is to observe that some "races" (as you care to define that term) are more susceptible to sickle cell anemia or Tay-Sachs disease.

If you were to argue that one group were better or more worthy human beings because of these differences, that would be racist.
Oh dear some of you really have no idea whatsoever do you.

The Kenyans that are good long distance runners when interviewed will tell you how they run miles to and from school each day as part of their training but heres the really important bit...they tend to live and train at high altitudes which increases the red blood cell count in their blood hence the amount of oxygen they can store and the red blood cells also undergo a change and increase their effectiveness at supplying the oxygen to the mitochondria in the cells to power the muscles, which as i'm sure all you "experts" are aware is used in great quantites in long distance running as its a highly aerobic activiity, as opposed to sprinting which is anaerobic

Plenty of European long distance athletes will travel to high altitude training camps before big events to gain the same advantage, but to use this advantage they usually have to compete within a couple of weeks on returning to low altitudes before the effect wears off.

Blacks are crap swimmers because of their bone to muscle ratio.
If you get the chance watch some black men putting jackets on and then watch some white men doing the same.....notice anything ?

still, you dont have to take my word for it, do some research.

Ps: If you get the chance watch some black men putting jackets on and then watch some white men doing the same.....notice anything ?
and Eskimos are rubbish at volleyball.
bazwilrun - having many times observed black people swimming in the sea in Africa/Caribbean I disagree that they`re "crap swimmers". Maybe they just can`t sustain the distances. A black colleague told me that black people simply dislike swimming in chlorinated water because it gives their skin a grey appearance due to the bleaching effect.
slavery was a nice earner for the black tribes and the arabs for centuries before whites knew diddely about africa, all the whites did was just expand the market and take slaves further afield.

so stop making out its a big bad white man thing
@237SJ

but we arent talking about them going for a swim at the beach we are talking about olympic level etc swimming
Many years go, I remember reading that people of African descent had a different hip-knee ratio from Cacausians, with a longer femur. This would make sense,as it is the thigh that powers the run.
yes eskimos can't get the bikinis to fit over their furs! lol!
East Asians have higher IQs :0)
