An 11 yr old manges to get on a plane to Italy with no passport ticket or anything. He simply walked on.

so is this staff trying to prove a point or simple incompetancy ?

Methinks the Parent or Parents had some input to his actions for cheap Publicity,could be wrong though.
It's interesting, I was reading some of the comments which raised good points. I'd like to know exactly what the learning difficulties are and what mum's response was when he ran away. I agree that staff should have done a better job since we're all supposed to be so vigilent at the moment, but I do feel like I'd want more information before I pile it all on them.
There is little doubt that this lad made the trip but I do not think he is as innocent as he makes out. Security is tight at Manchester. I suspect he purposely a degree of mingled with families to get through all the checks.
The only thing new about this is the fact that someone managed to leave the UK, generally it is young men from overseas that manage to get in to the UK unnoticed.
My only gripe is that they brought the little sod back.............

This country has a habit of producing a certain type of pre-adolescent boy - William Brown , Dennis the Menace , Harry Potter etc .
I reckon he's already pulled the wool over his mother and his teachers' eyes and this is the first in a long line of high profile escapades after which he will sell the rights to his own autobiography and movie etc.
Incompentancy by several departments. You count the heads and you count the boarding cards. It`s not difficult...
Apparently his mother is so concerned by it all she has sold the story to the sun.

I agree with vulcan, they said on the TV last night that a number of checks and headcounts clearly hadn't been made.
are staff trying to prove a point? By being suspended? Unlikely.
