Hello. I am a female of 17 years old and i have been smoking cannabis since i was 11. Although starting to smoke so early on is unfortunate, there is nothing i can change about that, however there is a question i have.
I gave it up 2 days ago because since i started smoking cannabis, it became my escape from many problems such as anxiety. I was extremely shy when i began school and cannabis became my recluse. Unfortunately it backfired and i became chronically depressed and anxious by the time i was 15 and due to this i failed many of my exams.
On average i smoked 12 joints a day from the age of 12. Since school, college has been a no go area as my anxiety is too overwhelming and i have probably just failed my As levels.
So... my question is: Is it possible that cannabis hightened my anxiety disorder, and will giving up cure me of this overwhelming anxiety? (with the help of others)

I suffered with anxiety for many years resulting in some frightening panic attacks. I was fortunate I was 'threatened' with tablets and it was a path I just didnt want to follow.
You are now 17 and have your whole life before you. Go and see your GP and talk it through with them, they will probably refer you so you can get to the root of the anxiety i.e. childhood experiences etc.
I think you know the answer already, you can crack the anxiety I promise you. I am now a lot older and although I have a few wobbles from time to time I am now confident I can handle anything - in fact people think i am a very strong person which is flattery of the highest order when I think about how I was at school and for the few years after.

I went through a stage of 6 months of being stoned constantly when i was 19, it's not good for you to be like that unless you are ill in some way and there are only other prescription drugs that can help, i know what i would rather choose. i don't see anything wrong with it in general and i still have the odd one at weekends after we have been out but you will have to face your anxiety one way or another and depending on what sort of person you are depends on how things affect you, we are all different after all and things affect us equally as different. I quit for new year and carried on the smoking part which i know is not great either but i enjoy it so i am not about to give up something i enjoy.
Good luck in what ever you chose to do hun, you will change dramatically as a person in the next 5 years or so anyway so you may get over it or need some help either way don't go it alone, either speak to a good friend that will understand or your GP or local drug carer group.
